Have you ever been to Bicol? Have you seen the Majestic Mayon Volcano?
Have you visited the Virgin of our Lady of Penafrancia? Or the CWC Watersport
Center in Pili?
Why not plan a trip this summer with your family and friends and enjoy the
beauty of Bicol. By land trip, you can take the aircon buses at the Araneta
Center.
Or take a 9 hour drive with your car. Better yet bring along with you a
group. Manila to Naga is about 9 hours. This can be broken down to 3 legs.
- Ist leg is from Manila to Lucena City about 3 1/2 hours drive
- 2nd leg Lucena to Calauag about 2 1/2 hours drive
- 3rd leg Calauag to Naga City about 3 hours drive.
It is recommended that you leave Manila about 5 A.M. No problem with clean
toilets as there are lots of Petrons, Shell and Caltex stations along the
way. Lunch? No problem too. In Lucena you have Maxs, Jollibee, McDonalds, etc.
But I like eating in the native restaurants along the way. If you're not
in a hurry you can have your lunch at PalayIisdaan inbetween Tayabas and Lucban
in Quezon . Very good native food. Inihaw na baboy per kilo , Fresh tilapia,
veggies, lots of other goodies for a very reasonable price. Or at LITA's Seafood
Restaurant, along the National Highway in Atimonan. (You will not miss it
there are lots of cars and trucks parked on the right side of the road if
your going to Bicol.)
On the 3rd leg starting in the town of Calauag. The next concern is not to
miss the turn going to The Quirino Highway now Andaya Highway. You will see
a sign to TAGKAWAYAN . The idea is not to pass to DAET AS THIS WILL BE AN
ADDITIONAL 2 HOURS DRIVE. so from Calauag its TAGKAWAYAN, DEL GALLEGO, RAGAY,
LUPI, SIPOCOT. From Sipocot to Naga is an easy 45 minutes to 1 hour drive.
Halina sa Malabsay Falls and Atulayan Island.

The
Resort is located at kilometer 12 just at the foothills of Mount Isarog.
About 7 kilometer uphill of cemented road from Penafrancia Resort you will
get to the flat area leading to a 200 steps decent to Malabsay Falls.
Water so cold and so fresh awaits you. Nature so green and beautiful.
This can be done half a day at the most.
Another beautiful place to visit is Atulayan Island.
It is best to make arrangements with the Resort to prepare packed lunch and
drinks.
Leave Penafrancia Resort about 7 AM for a 45minutes drive to Sagnay port.
You can check your maps for directions.
You will pass Pili, Ocampo, Tigaon then Sagnay.
When you get to Sagnay ask where the port is so you can take a boat to the
Island its a 15 minutes boat ride.
You can rent a boat for about P1,800.00 to bring you to the Island and to
pick you up say 2 PM.
This is a great day trip.
You can be back in Naga about 4 PM.

About Naga City
The City of Naga (Bikol: Ciudad nin Naga; Filipino:
Lungsod ng Naga) is a city of the Philippines. Located in the Bicol Region,
a peninsula on the southeasternmost tip of the island of Luzon, it is 377
kilometers southeast of Manila, the nation's capital, and about 380 kilometers
northeast of Cebu City, Queen City of Southern Philippines.
With a relatively small land area compared to all cities in Bicol which accounts
for it being the most densely-populated city in the region, Naga City is locally
known as the "Heart of Bicol". It is the religious and
cultural center of the Bicol region. Residents of the City are called
Naguenos.
Naga City is at the core of Metro Naga, an unofficial
designation given to 14 municipalities and Naga City administered by the Metro
Naga Development Council. MNDC covers the entire 2nd district of the province
of Camarines Sur, and part of its 1st, 3rd and 4th districts.
Brief History of Naga City
Before the coming of Spanish conquerors, Naga was
already a flourishing village along the banks of the Naga River. It was an
important village with comparatively sophisticated weaponry and surprisingly
advanced culture.
For hundreds of years during the Spanish colonial era, the
Naga that we know now was once the center of trade, education and culture,
and the seat of governmental and ecclesiastical jurisdiction in Bicol and
parts of modern Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon.
In 1573, on his second expedition to this region, the conquistador Juan de
Salcedo landed in a village and named it "Naga" because of the abundance of
Narra trees ("Naga" in Bikol) in the place. In 1575, Captain Pedro de Chavez,
the commander of the garrison left behind by Salcedo, founded on the site
of the present business center (across the river from the original Naga) a
Spanish city which he named La Ciudad de Caceres, in honor of Francisco de
Sande, the governor-general and a native of the city of Caceres in Spain.
It was still by this name that it was identified in the papal bull of August
14, 1595 that erected the See of Caceres, together with those of Cebu and
Nueva Segovia, and made it the seat of the new bishopric under the Archdiocese
of Manila.
